Emergence of Spring

Temperatures in the low seventies . . . fresh buds emerging on fruit trees . . . delicate bursts of color on pink crepe myrtles and yellow broom blossoms.

Part of the balance of life as a working mom is sometimes you have to just LIVE life, and not follow the checklist or to-do list.  Ever since I returned home from an academic conference in Florida a few weeks ago, I’ve been blogging and tweeting less, and spending more time working on jigsaw puzzles with my son, or enjoying serene hikes (or trail runs) with the family, and catching up on domestic trivialities like hemming clothes and curtains and ironing cotton shirts.

Life.

Mostly unplugged.

Such a lovely way to beckon in the beauty of spring.

I’ve also tried a few new things, lately.  I attended an academic seminar open to the general public at the local university because 1) I find neuroscience fascinating and 2) I need to feed my brain.

Also, I’ve met with some other health professionals in the community, and I plan to meet with more.  The more doctors and health care providers I meet, the better I’m able to help patients by providing referrals in the event it takes more than just me . . . a team of us . . . to provide the best possible care and solutions for helping a person achieve optimal health.

My family is blessed by the opportunity to move into a bigger (and better) space in a couple of months.  We might get there in time to launch a late spring garden!  We’re eagerly anticipating settling into a more permanent home location.  After all, this will be our son’s fourth move in less than four years (he’s not yet four years-old).  But hopefully, this will be it for a very long time.

More travel for 2011?  Absolutely!

We’re taking a family vacation to Washington, D.C.–can’t wait for a mini vacation!  Later this summer, I’m traveling to Shanghai to teach an academic seminar to medical doctors.  Finally, in late summer, our family is traveling to the west coast to celebrate in a joyful wedding with other dear family members.

What a lovely year this is turning out to be!

Now, please excuse me as I struggle to get on to this daylight standard time—my body feels like it’s been sleep deprived for a couple of days.

Happy Monday!
