My husband doesn’t think I’ll keep up this trend longer than a couple of weeks. Sure, there’s going to be crazy busy mornings where I don’t feel like using a veg cutter to make cute designs (although, it only takes 10 seconds). However, the appreciation I receive from my son…and the empty-upon-return lunch box tells me it’s worth it.
I have fond bento memories of nutritiously packed lunches–sealed with love from mom–when I was a kid.
My son is joining me for a lunch meeting today, and this is what I packed for him (sunrise bento):
- lentil-tomato salad (leftovers day 2)
- quarter of a peach sliced
- hard-boiled egg in a fish-shape (find your fish & car egg molds
- mozzarella birds and cherry tomatoes (Stainless Vegetable Cutters also on Amazon)
Not pictured: small container of raisins and heart-shaped peanut butter sandwich (sunflower bread) wrapped and sealed with a sticker.

What a great way to make leftovers presentable and noshable!
I’d love to know about your bento ideas, tips, and tricks…please share!

She posts her girls’ lunches everyday.
