Dearest Calvin,
Has it been four years already?
Your vivaciousness for the up side of life and laughter is so contagious–you get yourself into non-stop giggles with an infectious aura that brightens up any room or public place.
Forward rolls, log rolls, swimming pool leaps and underwater swims–your boundless energy seems never-ending–just like your beautiful smile. I’m so relieved that by this summer, you could swim underwater and across the pool all by yourself.
We’re so blessed that you have such a heart of kindness and generosity to share with others, to tend to their hurts and needs, and to pray for others…your compassion and mercy is a cherished gift that makes this world a better place. Your witty sense of humor and perfect timing can brighten up the most sour disposition.
I love your insatiable curiosity and zeal for learning–I hope it never grows gray or jaded–you can count past ten and almost to twenty without skipping too many teen numbers. Parallelograms are your favorite shapes. This weekend you told me your favorite colors are green and gray and black. You love learning phonics sounds for letters, and you’re quite happy with yourself that you are able to sound out words and read a few pages of some easy primers. You’ve been practicing writing your letters with little assistance, and you can write almost all of them on your own!
At four, you love to help your Daddy build things and help you Mama craft things. But, more than anything, you love to help both of us in the kitchen prepare food. Anything to do with peeling, mixing, stirring, pouring, grating, sorting, or straining you adore. In fact, you’ve attempted to hand wash dishes on your own several times. You’re such a great helper with laundry, vacuuming your room, making your bed, and picking up all your toys by yourself.
May you continue to grow in tender kindness and love toward others…may the Lord God hold you close and be your shelter when you stumble and fall. Know that through everything, your Daddy and I love you unconditionally.
With all my love,
Mama

So very sweet and true, God Bless you all, MImi
