“Social worker” is already a vocabulary word our four year-old knows quite well. Ever since we read him the darling book Waiting for May back in December, he’s memorized every concept and taken it to heart.
He thinks that every adoption experience the boy and his family endured, he will endure as well.
Like the time we took him to get his blood drawn to prove he doesn’t have tuberculosis, he thought he would have to get shots, too. The boy still asks me if he has to get shots.
So, when we learned that the social worker assigned to work with us is now ready to schedule our home study visits, our son recalled with impressive detail how this would all play out based on the events in Waiting for May. It’s a great adoption story written by a mother who went through the adoption journey with her family to bring home their daughter/sister from China.
We’re thankful that we’re now in this phase of the adoption process (knowing full well that it’s still a long and uncertain road ahead). At every family meal, before we say grace, our son now asks to pray for our social worker so that she can help us adopt little sister. For those of you who want to pray along with us . . . thank you!
