Something different on a day wrought with gray and drizzle and no school.

We started the day singing to our little guy, and telling him a little bit about the first day we met him.  As a special treat, I made his favorite breakfast, buckwheat pancakes.  His special request was for a bear-shape.

Granted.

Buckwheat pancakes, banana slices, semi-sweet chocolate chips, a raspberry, and a slight drizzle of raspberry preserves makes the perfect pancake breakfast bear.

Breakfast was immediately followed by a play date with a friend from Pre-K, since they were both home from school for the day.  Post-play date snacks consisted of roasted and salted pumpkin seeds and an interesting pumpkin smoothie, inspired by a recipe I found on Pinterest.  It was modified with raw almonds, frozen mango chunks (since we were all out of ice cubes), and a little bit of cocoa.  pumpkin smoothie

Conclusion, it was . . . meh.  All three of us decided it wasn’t our favorite flavor.  But, this was said after everyone downed their pint of smoothie.  So, it was an interesting fall flavor, but not as good as summer smoothies.

Now, Calvin is busy scrawling out hearts on the envelopes of thank you cards that we composed together.  He was very thoughtful with his words, and I hope the recipients can feel the gratitude oozing from the paper.

I don’t know what it is about birthdays, but sudden milestone changes seem to happen right away.  This year, Calvin has not just one, but two loose teeth.  He’s quite excited about this . . . I guess every kid is excited to grow up.  I keep wishing he’d slow down and stay the same for a bit longer.
